Again the people have spoken. The Federer/Berdych final was sold out, standing room only, but the Williams/Azarenka final had about 30-40% attendance. This unfortunately has been the trend for the last few years…One has to conclude that if the ATP and WTA conducted separate slams and 1000 events, the WTA would go bankrupt in a few seasons.
Compounding the problem is that only Federer and Nadal have been regularly selling out stadiums on the ATP side, and the ATP is in no shape to carry the WTA – it needs to promote its top players to stay viable. I don’t have an answer to this problem, but it can only get worse.
